Preliminary hearing set for Purdy man

Thursday, May 5, 2011

A preliminary hearing date has been set for a Purdy man charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with a traffic crash that killed a 10-year-old girl.

Gregory Swaffar, 26, faces two charges of felony vehicular assault charges, one charge of involuntary manslaughter and one charge of driving while intoxicated, third offense. Prosecutors claim Swaffar was drunk when his car crossed the center line and crashed head on into a car driven by Kenneth Keif Jr., 33, of Washburn. Keif's daughter, Melissa Keif, was fatally injured in that crash.

Kenneth Keif Jr. was seriously injured in the crash as well as a passenger in the Swaffar vehicle, Sandra S. Larson, 46, of Shell Knob.

Swaffar had previously entered a guilty plea in March 2009 for a DWI arrest taking place on Dec. 20, 2008. At that time he was assigned 20 hours of community service and two years unsupervised probation.

In August of 2010, Swaffar entered a guilty plea in Cassville Municipal Court for a May 21 arrest for excessive blood alcohol content. He was fined a total of $107 for that occurrence.

Swaffar's preliminary will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 in Barry County Circuit Court in Cassville.
