Friday Squared returns to downtown square in May

Thursday, April 28, 2011

The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce will host its first Friday Squared event of 2011 on Friday, May 13. The block party will begin at 7 p.m., and an outdoor movie will be shown at dusk.

"The chamber is very excited to host Friday Squared again," said Mindi Artherton, chamber executive director. "We are thrilled we can offer this fun family event three times this year rather than twice like we did last year.

"This year's events will all have a different theme," said Artherton. "We can't wait to see what the retail businesses and booth vendors come up with to support the theme."

In May, Friday Squared will feature "The Great Outdoors," the 1988 comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. Block party participants will be encouraged to decorate booths using the outdoor theme.

The June event will offer a sports theme, and the last Friday Squared will celebrate Christmas in July. Community members can vote for the movie that will be shown at the June and July events by visiting the chamber website at www.cassville.com.

In addition to watching a movie on the outdoor big screen, Friday Squared attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live musical entertainment and shopping from 7 p.m. to dusk. Downtown businesses will offer a variety of special promotions during the pre-show block party.

Friday Squared shoppers who make a purchase during the event will be entered into a drawing for chamber prizes. Last year's drawing offered gift certificates, gift bags and other items.

For more information on this year's Friday Squared events or to reserve booth space for the May 13 block party, call Artherton at 847-2814 or email chamber@cassville.com.
