Baseball Trojans are shutout by Wheaton

Thursday, April 28, 2011

The Wheaton Bulldogs blanked the visiting Southwest Trojans on the diamond, 3-0, on Thursday, April 21.

Jakob Beck started and earned the victory for Wheaton, striking out seven. Southwest's Tyler Ferguson took the loss in an eight-strikeout performance.

Beck was in complete control in this game, allowing only five base runners in the six innings. Although both Ty Hackett and Austin Rettmann reached third base for Southwest in the first and third innings respectively, the view from third base was as close as the Trojans would get to scoring.

Ferguson pitched well too, but the Southwest team came unraveled in the fourth inning. Sean Goostree singled and later scored in a three-hit inning for the Bulldogs, and Wheaton took a 1-0 lead.

Ferguson walked Beck and Goostree to open the bottom of the fifth inning, and then Kyle Robbins made the Trojans pay with a two-RBI triple to put the game out of reach.
