The Southwest Trojans took a 9-5 decision at Exeter on Tuesday, April 19. Jake Shrum earned the win for Southwest over Exeter's Tyler White, although the 9-5 contest was anything but a pitchers' duel.
Southwest took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Jordan Savage knocked in both Austin Rettmann and Tyler Ferguson with a two-RBI single.
Exeter recovered to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning, as Colton Stringer, Kong Lee and Cody Stringer scored to give the Tigers the advantage.
Southwest regained the lead in the fifth frame, converting a pair of walks, a single by Shrum and a double by Austin Evans into four runs and a 6-3 lead. Southwest added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth, and Exeter would only manage two more scores before game's end.
Ferguson ignited the Southwest offense with a single, two doubles and a walk. Cody Stringer led Exeter at the plate with two singles and a double.
