Embracing digital media
Over the last few years, the Cassville Democrat staff has attempted to create a website that will complement and even enhance what is offered through the weekly newspaper. In the coming months, we will double our efforts to reach a younger, more technology savvy generation through our Internet site. We want to make www.cassville-democrat.com more user friendly, more fun, more entertaining and more community oriented.
I believe the Cassville Democrat newspaper has remained in business for over 140 years, because it meets a need for our community. The newspaper is focused on Barry County and all of its happenings. We offer stories that directly impact the local community, publish photos of students and local athletes and give families a place to post reunion notices, engagement announcements and community events.
As we look at redesigning and restructuring our website, we want to ensure that it too serves the local community. We already post news, sports and school content on the website. We also offer our county calendar and other information at www.cassville-democrat.com. In the future, we hope online users will visit our website to view photos that did not make the print edition and other information that will be added to the newspaper's Internet page.
We also want our website to showcase events and activities happening in our community. We welcome the submission of user photos for the website. In the future, we plan to select some of the user photos that are submitted and showcase those photos in the newspaper for our print readers. We will also be offering a variety of contests throughout the year that require community members to vote online. We hope these contests will encourage local community members to become better acquainted with www.cassville-democrat.com.
Our website could also become more community oriented with the addition of more local blogs. We are always looking for new bloggers who are interested in sharing their experiences or expertise on a variety of subjects. We would love to add blogs by sports enthusiasts, students, mothers, teachers, municipal leaders and medical professionals to our website. Community members interested in writing a weekly or monthly blog are encouraged to email me at email@example.com. Area residents who have other ideas on how we can improve our website are also invited to email me or send me a message via the Cassville Democrat's Facebook page.
As we make the move to further embrace online media, I hope the local community will join us on this new adventure. Our quest is to better serve you, our readers, whether you prefer print or digital media.
