A graduate of Carl Junction High School, Powers played college baseball at the University of Central Missouri where he was recognized as a NCAA Division II All-American.
Powers is a member of the UCM Hall of Fame. In 2005, he was named the 2005 National, Central Region and MIAA Pitcher of the Year while posting a 15-1 record. Powers led the Mules to a Division II national championship in 2003. He was selected in the 2005 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins in the eighth round.
Powers teaches social studies in the classroom and will assist with football and baseball in addition to his head coaching duties on the hardwood.
