Black light mini golf opens at Hilltop
Area youngsters, teens and families now have a new form of entertainment to enjoy on weekends. Last Friday, Donnie and Teresa Stumpff opened Adventure Park Mini Golf at Hilltop on Highway 112 south of Cassville.
"This was a total fluke," said Teresa. "My brother-in-law called me and said that he had found this mini golf stuff on Craig's List. He thought it would work great in an empty building.
"When we went to look at it, we had no idea it was black light mini golf," said Teresa. "It was really neat."
The Stumpffs renovated the building that formerly housed Rex's Restaurant for the 18-hole black light mini golf course.
"We hired Steve Hodgen, of Washburn," said Teresa. "He did all of the glow-in-the-dark cutouts and paintings. He built the bridge in the middle of the course too. He has a lot of vision."
"He is a true artist," said Donnie. "He can do anything from painting the face of a building to make it look like a log cabin the way he did on the outside of this building to designing signs and the artwork he did inside."
The Stumpff children, Dillon, Parker and Shania, also added their creative touches to the business. Parker helped arrange the mini golf course, Dillon selected the theme for the Wildcat party room, and Shania painted the floors in the video game and concession areas.
In addition to the 18-hole course that features a variety of fun mini golf obstacles, Adventure Park offers an assortment of video games and air hockey. The Stumpffs plan to expand the arcade area and add ski ball over the next few months.
"This offers good clean family entertainment for all ages," said Donnie. "This summer, we will have senior nights and mini golf tournaments. We just want this to be a fun place for people to go."
Adventure Park can be reserved for parties and events. Parties, which last an hour and a half, include all-you-can-play mini golf. Additional time can be added for a cost.
Children's parties also include a drink and an ice cream cup for each child.
"As long as we know a few days in advance, we can make arrangements for a party," said Teresa.
"We are willing to do what we can to accommodate people," said Donnie.
Parker and Shania will be in charge of most of the party reservations. The pair will also manage the mini golf business this summer.
Adventure Park Mini Golf is now open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. This summer, the business will open at noon.
"We hope this business gives kids something to do," said Teresa. "We want it to appeal to a wide range of kids from 2 to 18."
