In February, Platinum Healthcare, which is based in Skokie, Ill., purchased the local long-term healthcare facility formerly known as the Barry County Care Center. The facility is now known as Cassville Healthcare and Rehab.

"The only change so far has been the name change," said Barbara Howell, who has served as the facility's administrator for three years. "We are going to be doing some remodeling and updating in the future though.

"I would like to start with the kitchen area," said Howell. "Platinum Healthcare is on board with helping us reach all of our goals for this facility."

In addition to updating the facility, the Cassville Healthcare and Rehab staff will continue to focus on providing a quality healthcare environment for all of the facility's residents.

"This is just about as close to home as you can get without being at home," said Howell. "Our staff members are so caring. They look at our residents as family, and our residents think of our staff as their family as well."

Many of the Cassville Healthcare and Rehab staff members take part in resident activities, which are offered during the day, in the evenings and on weekends.

"When we held our senior prom, our staff jumped in and took part in the event with the residents," said Howell. "They also participate in a lot of the outside activities that we offer."

In addition to weekly Bingo games and coffee groups, the facility offers entertainment by an Elvis impersonator, cookout events and pet therapy.

"We have a lot of entertainment that comes into the facility," said Howell.

Cassville Healthcare and Rehab also hosts yearly Easter egg hunts, trick-or-treat events and an open house craft show each December.

"The craft show is our biggest event all year," said Howell. "The residents really get involved in that. They help with a food table, sell crafts and hold a bake sale. It is a big event."

The facility also hosts a chili cook-off annually and baking contests several times each year.

"We have pie contests, cookie contests and cake contests," said Howell. "The residents serve as judges, so they get to taste all of the baked goods. They really enjoy that."

Cassville Healthcare and Rehab is able to serve up to 60 residents. Residents are served by 58 trained staff members.

Platinum Healthcare LLC operates three long-term healthcare facilities in Missouri and several others in Illinois.
