Healthy Kids Day Fair to be held Saturday

Thursday, April 14, 2011

The Cassville YMCA will host its annual Healthy Kids Day Fair and Fun Run at the YMCA facility on Highway 248 in Cassville from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 16.

"The Cassville YMCA is encouraging all kids and parents in Barry County to come to the YMCA for a play date and commit to being active every day," said Dove Haney, facility manager. "It's all part of the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day, the nation's largest health day for families."

Children will have the opportunity to participate in a one-mile fun run on the track behind the YMCA facility. Bounce houses and other inflatables will also be available to children during the event.

Other activities will include face painting, free T-shirts, healthy snacks, contests, games, chalk the walk, football toss, fingernail painting, volleyball and badminton. The YMCA facility will also be open throughout the fair.

The following businesses and organizations will offer activities and information during the event: the Barry County Health Department; Piggy Paint; Haven of the Ozarks; the Cassville Branch Library; First Baptist Church of Cassville; Emmanuel Baptist Church; Dr. Carolyn Hunter, DMD; Girl Scouts; and Barry Electric.

"At the Cassville YMCA, we know that parents struggle to find the time to incorporate more active play and healthier habits into their kids' daily routine," said Haney. "Doing so doesn't have to require extra money or resources. It's as simple as making a play date with your kids with two key requirements, be active and have fun."

Healthy Kids Day will be celebrated at YMCA's across the country this month. The event is designed to teach healthy habits to kids and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity.

Information about the Cassville YMCA's summer activities and programs will be available at the event.

All Healthy Kids Day activities are free to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families.
