Thelma D. Carlson, 71 of Shell Knob, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at her home. She was a long time Arkansas City, Kan., resident.

In accordance with Thelma's wishes, cremation has been effected. Private family services will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City, Kan., at a later date.

She was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Caldwell, Kan., the daughter of Orville and Margaret (Larsen) Crane. She went to country schools for three years then attended school in Drury, Kan., for two years. Thelma graduated from South Haven High School in 1957. She worked for 21 years at Rodeo Meats in Arkansas City, Kan., later worked 15 years at Binney & Smith in Winfield, Kan.

She married Fred L. Carlson on Oct. 10, 1969.

Survivors include: her husband, Fred Carlson; three sons, Chris Carlson and wife, Kristi, of Arkansas City, Kan., Rex Carlson and wife, Tina, of Derby, Kan., and Randy Carlson and wife, Del, of Prosper, Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Kendrick, of Maize, Kan.; a stepsister, Luana Ash, of Marshall, Okla.; a half brother, Randy Crane, of Joplin; and three stepbrothers, Don Laughery, of Maple Grove, Minn., Gene Laughery, of South Haven, Kan., and Dennis Laughery, of Wichita, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Pearl Crane, and Leland and Margaret Brier; and one daughter, Tami Lea McConnell.

She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City.

Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Haven of the Ozarks (Animal Sanctuary) or to the Shell Knob Senior Center driveway fund.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
