Gretchen L. Cameron, age 91, of Purdy, Mo., passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011, while at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett, Mo.

Gretchen was born on August 29, 1919, in Butterfield, Mo., the daughter of Bob Boyd and Dimple (Darst) Boyd. She graduated with the Class of 1937 from Butterfield High School. Gretchen had been a lifetime area resident and for over thirty-five years, she had been a first grade school teacher. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Purdy. Gretchen had many joys in her life but always held a very special love for her family, especially her grandchildren.

On June 6, 1937, in Exeter, Mo., Gretchen Boyd and Raymon Cameron were united in marriage. To this union, two children were born. Raymon preceded her in death on October 15, 1994. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Bob and Dimple Boyd; one son, Larry Lee Cameron; and two brothers, Dan Boyd and Bob Boyd.

Gretchen is survived by: one daughter, Donna Bowman, and her husband Larry, of Purdy, Mo.; one sister, Ann Howerton, and her husband, James, of Cassville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and an abundance of nieces, nephews and former students. She will be dearly missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Purdy. Reverend Tony Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Purdy Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
