U.S. ARMY SPECIALIST CHRISTOPHER STARK
United States Army Specialist Christopher Glenn Stark, 22, of Monett, was killed in action on Feb. 28, 2011, in COP Tangi, Afghanistan. He was born on Aug. 18, 1988, in Joplin. He is the son of Teresa (Brown) Stark and the late Jeffrey Allen Stark.
He graduated from Monett High School with the Class of 2007. While in school at Monett, he participated in football, basketball, baseball and soccer. He was also among the first group of cadets to launch the JROTC program at Southwest Area Career Center in Monett. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 2008. He served with the 63rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion 20th Support Command. He was stationed at Ft. Polk, La. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville.
Survivors include: his mother, Teresa Stark, of Nevada; one brother, Trenton Stark, of Nevada; maternal grandparents, Max and Maxine Brown, of Webb City; and paternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Johnson, of Hemet, Calif. Funeral services were held on Saturday at Jolly Mill Park, eight miles west of Monett on Highway 60. Interment followed at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett with full military honors.
