Howard E. Smith, 79, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at his home.
He was born on June 29, 1931, son of Ed and Dorothy (Sther) Smith in Spokane, Wash. At the age of 2, He moved with his family to Seattle, Wash., where he was raised and spent most of his life. On Oct. 20, 1962, he was united in marriage to Ruth (Baker) Rinker. After honorably serving his country for four years in the U.S. Army during the Koren Conflict, he worked for and retired as the vice president of sales for Washington Belt Company. He and Ruth moved to Aurora in 1990 to make their home.
Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Ruth Smith, of Aurora; two daughters, Trudy Blankenship and her husband, Sam, of Jenkins, and Pam Chastain, and her husband, Rick, of Olive branch, Miss.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Jerry Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ed Smith; and one sister, Arlene Bradley.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice of Aurora, 1602 Elliot St. Ste. E, Aurora, MO 65605.
Cremation will be under the direction of White Funeral Home and Crematory.
