Carl L. Burnett, 80, of Rocky Comfort, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, in Integris Grove General Hospital, Grove, Okla.
He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Raton, N.M., the son of Chester M. and Ruth Ann (Basarge) Burnett. On June 9, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joyce Stebens, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, one sister, and a great-grandson.
Survivors include: one son, Carl Burnett, Jr., of Fairview; three daughters, LaDon Burnett, of Rocky Comfort; Iva Lee Humphreys, of Carthage, and Theresa Sharp, of Rocky Comfort; four brothers, Avon Burnett, of Girard, Kan., Ted Burnett. of South Carolina, Marvin Burnett, of Rocky Comfort, and Billy Burnett, of Indiana; three sisters, Wilma Jean Scott, of Rocky Comfort, Helen Nabb, of Garden City, Kan., and Patricia Anderson, of Blue Springs; eight grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
He grew up and received his education in Ketchum, Okla., graduating from Ketchum High School. He attended college for two years. For a few years, he resided in Kansas before moving to Missouri to make his home. He built grain elevators and was a member of the Steelworkers Union.
Funeral services were held Saturday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Bro. Steve Higgs conducted the services. Burial will be in Rocky Comfort Cemetery, Rocky Comfort.
