Gustav "Karl" Buettner, 93, of Shell Knob, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Christians Koog, Germany, the son of August and Alivina (Hess) Buettner. On June 26, 1954, in Winnepeg, Canada, he was united in marriage to Annelene Bergfleth, who survives.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother.

He grew up and received his education in Wohrden, Germany, receiving his master's degree in auto mechanics. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the tank division in Germany. from 1945 until 1949, he was in the war camp in Odessa, Russia. After the war, he moved to Matteson, Ill., and was a tool and die maker for Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, Ill. In 1981, he and Annelene moved to Shell Knob to make their home.
