Nancy Vivian Osburn Scates, 69, of Seligman, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

She was born July 20, 1941, in Worland, Wyo., the sixth of seven children to Jack and Vivian (Bader) Whaley. On April 10, 1999, in Eureka Springs, Ark., she was united in marriage to Harold "Red" Scates, who survives.

Additional survivors include: six daughters, Annette Stewart and her husband, Justin, of Garfield, Ark., Mary Jane Moore and her husband, Chuck, of Rogers, Ark., Lisa Whaley, of Casper, Wyo., Rhonda Osburn, of Anchorage, Alaska, Donna Barrett and her husband, Scott, of Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Nancy Ann Osburn and Larry Daly, of Pinedale, Wyo.; four sons, John Algee, of Utah, Dan Algee, of Pinedale, Wyo., Brian Carver and his wife, Kristy, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Henry Simpson, of Roy, Utah; two stepsons, Alan Osburn, of Kentucky, and Rick Osburn, of Alaska; one brother, Phillip Whaley and his wife, Eileen, of Wyoming; two sisters, Jackie Phillips and her husband, Chester, of Worland, Wyo., and Peggy Ludke, of Arizona; 30 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Lois Ann Simpson; two brothers, Keith Whaley and Fred Whaley; and two grandsons. She grew up and received her education in Ten Sleep, Wyo., where she graduated from high school. While raising her 14 children, she resided in Casper, Wyo. In 1993, she moved to Missouri and eventually met and married "Red." She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Garfield, Ark.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in New Prospect Baptist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Ron Shults conducted the services. Burial was at Seligman Cemetery, Seligman.
