Ara "Grace" Ryan, 93, of Cassville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, in Barry County Care Center, Cassville.

She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Clayton, N.M., the daughter of Arthur Powell and Willa Mae (Riggins) Speer. On Aug. 21, 1937, in Cassville she was united in marriage to Clyde H. Ryan, and to this union two children were born.

Survivors include: one son, Ronnie C. "Ron" Ryan, of Louisville, Tenn.; one daughter, Shirley Hurst, of Cassville; two sisters, Fern Leach, of Cassville, and Willa Mae Willard and her husband, John, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clyde, who passed away Dec. 7, 1982; her parents; two sisters, Rosemary Farkas and Thelma Burch; and four brothers, Harlow Speer, Donald Speer, Marvin Speer and Charlie Speer.

She grew up in New Mexico, where she received some of her education before moving to Cassville, where she graduated from high school. For a short time, she taught school in Colorado. She owned and operated Grace's Drive-In in Cassville for several years. Following the closing of the drive-in, she opened a day care in her home, which she operated for 10 years before her retirement.

Graveside services were held Friday at Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Brother Steve Higgs conducted the services.
