Robert Gene Deeds, 61, of Joplin, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, in his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Hutchinson, Kan., the son of Robert, Sr., and Jimmie Pearline (Hale) Deeds. On June 30, 1996, in Wheaton, he was united in marriage to Patricia Johns, who survives.
Additional survivors include: his father, Robert Deeds, Sr., of Branson; his mother, Jimmie Deeds, of Joplin; one daughter, Robin Porter, of Maryville; one brother, Mark Douglas Deeds and his wife, Sandy, of Maryland; and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Nora Ebsch.
He received his education at Clarinda, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy in Yuma, Ariz. In 1968, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War and retiring in 1988. Before moving to Joplin on Aug. 19, 2010, he had resided in Wheaton 15 years. He was a past member of the Monett, Purdy and Exeter Lions Clubs and the Monett V.F.W.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with lunch at 12:30 p.m. at Wheaton Southern Baptist Church. Pastor Paul Wahlert will conduct the services.
Cremation arrangements are under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
