The Ladycats defeated Lamar 25-22 and 25-20 to earn a straight sets Big 8 volleyball victory on Thursday night at Cassville. It was a battle of two evenly matched teams, but Cassville played better at the net and made key plays in crucial situations.
The Lady Tigers fought back to tie in the late going of each game but never led in either.
Cassville led by as many as seven points in the first contest but saw the momentum fizzle as Lamar tied it at 20-20. But the home team hung on for a 25-22 win with Lamar's Monica Keutzer serving wide for the game's final point.
In the second game, Cassville led by four points on three occasions, before Lamar rebounded to tie the score at 18-18. The Ladycats finished with a 7-2 run to take the game and the match.
"It was a good win after we got beat up a little over the weekend," said Cassville's Jerry Schneider.
Emily Pry, Rachel Sanders, and Amanda Allison led the Ladycats with four kills each. Rylie Wilks collected three kills from her setter position and added a dozen assists.
Cassville improved to 14-12-2 overall and 1-4 in the Big 8 Conference with the victory.
