The Cassville Wildcat soccer team had a break-out week, picking up a pair of wins against district opponents.
Last Tuesday, Cassville traveled to Carl Junction and came home with a 2-0 victory.
BJ McGuffey scored the first goal of the game on an assist by Jesus Zermeno. Cassville added an insurance goal in the second half when Zermeno scored on an assist by Cory Sanders.
"This was a very intense game with both teams having many chances to score," said Coach Brian Wilbanks.
Sam Munday earned the shutout in goal.
The Wildcat strikers enjoyed another victory against Aurora on Thursday.
Cassville put three goals in the net in the first half to take a demanding 3-0 lead. Sanders, Zermeno and Jesus Camavillo all scored in the first half with assists tallied by McGuffey, Sanders and Wil LeCompte.
In the second half, the Wildcats added a fourth goal and gave up a goal to their hosts. Austin Deffenbaugh scored Cassville's final goal of the game on an assist from Evan Stubblefield.
"The Carl Junction win put us back in the running for first seed in districts," said Coach Wilbanks. "We will still need to beat Monett, Carl Junction and Aurora again to hold on."
The Wildcats are scheduled to play in the Willard Invitational tournament, which begins Thursday. They will travel to face the Houn' Dawgs again next Tuesday.
