Ruth Sturgis left this life at 12:38 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She was born Ruth Allen Burton to Juanita Dell McAllister Burton and John Taylor Burton on Sept. 10, 1935, in Hannibal, Missouri.

Ruth will always be remembered for her love of life, and her big heart, she was always helping someone. She was a big believer in service and taught her children that as well. She was an avid supporter of consistent discipline and follow through. Solving mysteries was one of her favorite pastimes. Shopping was one of the things she loved to do whether by herself or with her family. Her passion was her family.

Ruth was a member in many organizations: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; Order of the Eastern Star; Cassville Red Hat Society; Cassville VFW Auxiliary; SMART Camping Group; and Coast Guard Pterodactyl Group.

Ruth married Robert Lee Sturgis on Oct. 10, 1958, in Miami, Oklahoma, and was the greatest wife there ever was, they were just shy of 52 years this October. They had five children and she was the best mother in the world, always ready to help whether it was an opinion or physical help, she was there.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents, Juanita and John; her sister, Dorothy Alice and her two brothers, Charles Leslie and William Eugene Burton; her granddaughter, Courtney Anne Kuchin; and a grandson, Wilson.

Ruth left a prolific legacy behind: her children, Stacy Suzanne Sturgis Kuchin and husband Joseph; Michael Robert Sturgis and his wife, Gayle; Kristin Elizabeth Sturgis Myers and her husband, Alan; Paige Lucille Sturgis Howard and her husband Jeffery; William Thrasher Sturgis and his wife Lori. Her grandchildren; Deborah, Donna, Christopher, Adam, Heidi, Gretchen and Nathaniel Kuchin; Ethan and Abigail Sturgis; Jeremy, brandon, Katelyn and Andrew Wilson; Tyler, Bryce, Dylan, Hayden, McKay and Payson Howard; and Quincy Sturgis. Her great-grandchildren: Ashley, Jeffrey, Austin and Brogden; and two great great- grandchildren.
