CHS soccer suffers two defeats

Cassville soccer suffered two setbacks last week, losing to Marshfield 2-1 on the road and then falling to Springfield Central 6-1 at home.

The Marshfield game was a hard fought contest. The Wildcats were only able to score one goal against the Bluejays. Senior BJ McGuffey drove the ball through the Marshfield defense to score.

Last Tuesday night, a very talented Springfield Central team overpowered Cassville with their offensive onslaught.

"Central is a very talented larger class school, and we hung with them for the first 20 minutes of the game," Coach Brian Wilbanks said.

Constant pressure from Central broke down the Cassville midfield and five goals were scored from outside the box.

"The Central game showed us where our weaknesses are, giving us a chance to make changes this week," said Coach Wilbanks. "We are very young and the goal from the start of the season was to get better as we move towards districts in hope that we can compete for the title."

The Wildcats travel to Aurora on Thursday and then will play at College Heights in Joplin next Tuesday.
