Stephen W. "Steve" Lacey, 67, of Wheaton, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, in Red Rose Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cassville.
He was born March 26, 1943, in Wheaton, the son of Hugh and Evelyn (Karvanek) Lacey. On June 12, 1964, in Wheaton, he was united in marriage to Sue Riddle, who survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Mike Lacey and his wife, Holly, of Exeter; his father, Hugh Lacey, of Exeter; two brothers, Lyle Lacey, of Exeter, and Hugh Lake Lacey, of Joplin; and one granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Evelyn, and one brother Lynn Lacey.
He received his education at Exeter, where he graduated from high school. He attended School of the Ozarks and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas. During the Vietnam War, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from Dec. 22, 1967, until March 31, 1974. For a short time, he was employed as a chemical engineer in Joplin.
Most of his life was spent on his dairy farm at Wheaton. He was an active member of Wheaton United Methodist Church, teaching an adult Sunday School class over 20 years. He served on the University of Missouri Extension Council and had served on the housing authority for the Senior Citizens Housing in Wheaton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Pastors Derek Harmon and Dennis Cochran will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
