George Leon Allen, 88, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Barry County, passed away July 1, 2010.

He was born in Thayer, Kan., on Feb. 19, 1922, the son of Arthur Allen and Nancie Anne Collins.

He attended grade school at McGuire School near Golden. When WWII began, he joined in the U.S. army and obtained a place in the 96th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop.

After the war, he moved to Ark City, Kan., and finally to Wichita, Kan. There he worked 40 years for the Sherwoods/Wildcat Construction Company.

Survivors include: two wives, Ola Ibanez Walling and Darlyeen Penquite; two brothers, Emmett Allen, of Cassville, and Kenneth Allen, of Golden; a sister, Lois Buckley, of Douglas, Kan.; a son, Billy D. Allen; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial will be at the McGuire Cemetery.
