Olive Alees (Power) Larkin, 91, of Republic, Mo., went to be with her Lord on July 12, 2010. Olive was preceeded in death by her husband, Reverend Tim Larkin. She was the only surviving child of H. I. and Florence Power. Malvern, Ark., was her birthplace. Brookline Baptist Church was her church home.
With a true servant's heart, she served alongside her husband who pastored Southern Baptist churches including Roaring River, Seligman, Purdy, Joplin and Exeter. Among her favorite ministries were teaching and serving in the Woman's Missionary Union, which included Girl's Auxiliary, and Vacation Bible Schools. Many have shared stories of her teaching them in Vacation Bible School and remember the songs such as, "Everyday with Jesus." She took joy in being a music director, pianist and soloist where she could share her personal Christian testimony. Those of you who knew Tim and Olive will remember that, many times during his messages, he would stop and ask Olive to come and sing a song related to his message. One of his favorites was "One Day." They had a great time working together to the Glory of God.
For many years she was the office manager of the Barry Lawrence Regional Library System working in both Cassville and Monett locations. She loved books and reading was her favorite past-time.
Olive's loving family will greatly miss her including her daughters and their families; Lois and Louie Huff, Yorba Linda, Calif.; Cathey and Darrell Williams, Nashville, Tenn., and Jean Hartje, of Republic. Her grandchildren are Ed Huff, Lisa Huff Oakes, Lynn Williams, Bud Hartje, Jr. and Joshua Hartje. Great-grandchildren are Kara Oakes, Cory Oakes, Kelsey Oakes, Elizabeth Hartje Burns, Colin Williams, Savannah Hartje and Samuel Hartje.
She took great comfort in knowing......"I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever" from Psalm 23, which was one of her favorite chapters in the Bible.
A memorial service will be held for Olive on Thursday July 15 at 2:00 p.m, in the chapel of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett with burial to follow at the Monett IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Brookline Baptist Church Building Fund in Olive's name.
