Jesse Carl Chappell, 84, of Leavenworth, Kan., passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, in Providence Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.
He was born July 29, 1925, in Cassville, the son of Jesse and Bertha Viola (Cooper) Chappell, who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Loy Gene Chappell. Surviving is one brother, Bob Chappell and wife, Nancy, of Conway, Ark. He grew up and graduated from high school in Cassville. Much of his life was spent in Kansas. He worked as a fireman for the Ft. Leavenworth Fire Department. Prior to that, he worked at Sunflower Ammunitions Depot. He served his country in the U. S. Army in Korea, where he received a Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a United Nations Service Medal. He worked with the Coast Guard as a Merchant Seaman and with the Boeing Company as a riveter.
Funeral services were held Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial, with military honors, was at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
