Leon Vanderpool, 72, of Cassville, passed away Monday, June 14, 2010, at Nixa, following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Cassville, the son of Ora E. and Lora A. (Easley) Vanderpool, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Myra McNeill, of Nixa, and Brooke Burdette, of Sallisaw, Okla.; four sisters, Geneva Hicks, of Eagle Rock, Wilma Gaines, of Nixa, Clara Vanderpool, of Ozark, and Janice Ford, of Lowell, Ark.; four grandchildren, Candace Medlock, Levi Poe, Danielle McComb and Erin McComb; his life-long friend, Joyce Hastings, of Cassville; and his special dog and companion, Sophie.
He received his education in Cassville, where he graduated from high school and continued his education at Coffeyville Junior College. From 1982 until 1994, he made his home in Oklahoma, but the rest of his life was spent in Barry County. For several years, he was a custodian for the Cassville Public Schools. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was an avid trout fisherman and tied his own flies.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
