Rodeo action returns
Rodeo action will once again return to the Bill Hailey Arena in Cassville this weekend. The action-packed show, which is sponsored by the Cassville Rotary Club, will begin at 8 p.m. each night.
"We held a rodeo decorating contest for the merchants this year, and it has been very successful," said Stan Kelley, a member of the Cassville Rotary Club rodeo committee. "The contest was designed to get the community in the spirit of the rodeo, and we appreciate all the merchants who participated.
"The business that wins first place in the contest will be recognized on Saturday night," said Kelley. "All of that business' employees will also receive free tickets to the rodeo."
In addition to hosting the decorating contest to promote the rodeo, the Cassville Rotary Club visited area school districts and distributed passes to children under that age of 12.
"These children will be admitted to the rodeo for free if they are accompanied by an adult," said Kelley. "We really wanted to give local youngsters an opportunity to enjoy the rodeo this year."
The Rotary Club has also added a hospitality tent for cowboys competing in this year's rodeo.
"We wanted to let them know that we appreciate them coming to Cassville to compete," said Kelley. "We have over 171 cowboys coming this year. That is the largest number of competitors that we have had in the last few years."
Rodeo attendees will be treated to the following event this year: bareback riding; saddlebronc riding; bull riding; calf roping; team roping; steer wrestling; and cowgirl barrel racing. A calf scramble will be held nightly for children under the age of 10.
In addition to watching cowboys and cowgirls compete in seven thrilling events, this year's IPRA/ACRA-sanctioned rodeo will feature performances by Denim and Diamonds Quadrill Team on Friday night and The Rounders Quadrill Team on Saturday night. Both teams are from northwest Arkansas.
Dakota Missildine, Miss Rodeo USA 2010, will also make an appearance at this year's rodeo. Missildine, who is from Grady, Ala., has competed in junior rodeos, high school rodeos and collegiate rodeos. Her favorite event is breakaway roping.
Hampton Rodeo Co., of Springdale, Ark., will provide the quality rodeo stock for the event again this year. Hampton Rodeo has earned the IPRA Stock Producer of the Year Award numerous times.
"We want the rodeo to be an area-wide event that people come to and enjoy," said Kelley. "We hope the things we have added this year will help us promote a more exciting event. Come on out, enjoy being outside and the good food that the Rotary Club has to offer.
"Attendees will see top quality stock provided by Hampton Rodeo Co., and we usually have some of the top 10 ranked cowboys come for the competition," said Kelley. "This is a good opportunity to see some great cowboys and cowgirls perform, and all of the proceeds will go right back into helping the local community."
Adults attending the rodeo event will be admitted for $8 per person, and children who are between the ages of 6 and 12 will be admitted for $4. Admission is free for children under the age of 6.
Rodeo tickets can be purchased in advance from any Cassville Rotary Club member and at many of the local banks. Advance tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children.
The Bill Hailey Arena is located on Business 37 north of Cassville.
