Melvin Creech, 71, of Purdy, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010, at Cox South in Springfield following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1938, son of Lee and Ruth Davis Creech in Rogers, Ark. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated Creech's Body Shop in Cassville for 21 years before becoming an owner/operator over-the-road truck driver. He moved to Monett four years ago from Purdy. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Monett.
He married Ava Jones on Jan. 29, 1960, in Tulsa, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Lonnie Creech, of Purdy; one daughter, Carol Lee and her husband, Ron, of Monett; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, David Creech, of Pea Ridge, Ark.; and eight sisters, Geneva Wooten, of Bixby, Okla., Erma Nelson, of Longmont, Colo., Edna McCall, of Dundee, Ill., Mary Hillard, of Fayetteville, Ark., Katherine Mindoro, of Bella Vista, Ark., Judy Jaques, of Lee's Summit, Linda Dingledine, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Sandra Boyd, of Rogers, Ark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the White Funeral Home with Pastor John Henry and Pastor Jason Mackey officiating. Burial was at Purdy City Cemetery in Purdy.
Memorial contributions may be entrusted to the White Funeral Home for the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were under the direction of the White Funeral Home, Cassville.
