Robert L. "Bob" Townsend, 73, of Shell Knob, passed away at St. John's Hospital in Berryville, Ark., on June 5, 2010.
He was born on March 22, 1937, in Atchison, Kan., son of Freddie and LuVerne Ward Townsend. He was a 1955 graduate of Wichita West High School and a member of the Kansas National Guard. He lived in Wichita most of his adult life, and after 43 years, retired from Koch Industries as an information system analyst. Bob and Norma moved to Shell Knob in May of 2003. He was a member of the Riverlawn Christian Church in Wichita, Kan., for many years, and was currently a member of the First Christian Church in Shell Knob, where he served as a deacon.
He married Norma Nutzman on May 9, 1992, in Wichita, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Robert W. Townsend, of Pardeeville, Wis.; one daughter, Karen Whipple and her fiancÚ, Greg Wilson, of Wichita, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Lisa Donley, of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson and one brother, Freddie Eugene Townsend.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Christian Church in Shell Knob.
Funeral services in Wichita, Kan., were held today (Wednesday) at Riverlawn Christian Church, under the direction of Broadway Mortuary, Wichita, Kan. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Shell Knob. Local arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home, Cassville.
