Joseph Franklin George, 76, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon.
He was born March 15, 1934, the son of Franklin Harrison and Elsie Emma (Kilpatrick) George, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were one brother, Lee George, and one sister, Carolyn Pennel.
Survivors include: one brother, David George and his wife, Gail, of LaGrange, Ga.; and three sisters, Emma Jean Blinka, of Dallas, Texas, Marjorie George, of Springfield, and Mary George, of Danville, Calif.
He received his education in Barry County, graduating from Purdy High School in 1953. He then attended business school in Springfield. For 21 years, he made his career in the United States Army, from which he retired. He was a long-time member of the Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church in Springfield.
Graveside services with military honors were held Friday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Butterfield, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
