Leading the pack Democrat Photo by R.K. Wilson Cassville's Danielle Pianalto enjoys a solid lead ahead of her competitors in the 4x200 relay. Pianalto and fellow relay team members Risa Darveaux, Reba Dupont and Calisia Brookes won gold in the event and set a new record with their 1:48.32 finish. They now take their record-setting time to the state track meet this weekend. The same relay also finished third in the 4x100 event, which was good enough for a chance at state.

The Cassville Ladycats broke an 11-year-old record in the 4x200 meter relay in sectional competition on Saturday at Marshfield and qualified for the Class 3 state track meet.

The quartet of Calisia Brooks, Risa Darveaux, Reba Dupont and Danielle Pianalto took first place with a 1:48.32 clocking, eclipsing the previous record of 1:49.9 set back in 1999.

The same group of girls also qualified for state in the 4x100 meter relay, placing third in 52.03.

Dylan Gibson qualified in both the shot and discus, taking fourth in both events. Gibson threw the plate 142'7" and the shot 48'4.5" for the Wildcats.

Devin Linenbrink took third in the long jump with his 21'7" leap, and Matt Angel was third in the high jump, clearing 6'2". Linenbrink also placed seventh in the triple jump.

No Cassville boys qualified in the running events. The 4x100 meter relay team of Joseph Gouvion, Josh Lewright, Devin Linenbrink and Trevor Shumaker finished sixth in 44.95, lowering their school record in the process.

The MSHSAA Class 3 and 4 State Track and Field Championships get underway on Friday at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
