Irene Jenkins, 89, of Weir, Kan., died at 12:01 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the home of her son in Weir, Kan.
She was born November 19, 1920 in Purdy, Mo., the daughter of Pierre L. and Hazel (Gravitt) Decocq. She was a graduate from Wheaton High School, Wheaton, Mo., and received her teacher's certificate from Kansas State Teachers College.
Irene married Francis Jenkins on Sept. 19, 1942 in Los Angeles, Calif.; he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1997.
She was a school teacher for 36 years retiring in 1983. She taught in Missouri, Scammon, Weir and Columbus Kansas.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of the Weir United Methodist Church, the Kent Chapter #117 Order of the Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include: three sons, David Jenkins and wife, Becky, of Weir, Kan., John L. Jenkins and wife, Nan, of Chicago, Ill., Glen Jenkins, of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Jane Pike and husband, Tony, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law Rozella Decocq, of Cassville, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers Lawrence and Olan Decocq and a daughter-in-law Beverly Jenkins.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday May 6 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Reverend Bob Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Hosey Hill Cemetery. The Order of the Eastern Star will provided burial rites at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
