Jean Sanders Melton, 85, passed away Tuesday morning, March 30, 2010, at her home near Cassville.
She was born at Shell Knob on Dec. 16, 1924, the daughter of John Perry Sanders and Hattie (Blythe) Sanders.
A graduate of Cassville High School, class of 1942, she entered the University of Missouri and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in vocational home economics, which she taught for three years in the Carrollton High School, northeast of Kansas City. She also taught one term at Cassville and one term at Purdy.
On June 19, 1949, she married Emory Melton at the Shell Knob First Baptist Church.
Throughout her active adult years, she was an avid golfer, a very accomplished seamstress and an ardent believer in her faith, having taught Sunday School and young people classes over her years at First Baptist Church in Cassville.
In 1960, she became a Cassville businesswoman, working in the Litho Printers plant in Cassville and in 1970, became the publisher of the Barry County Advertiser and remained as publisher until her death.
Survivors include: her husband, Emory Melton; one son, Stanley, and his wife, Cindy, of Springfield; and one sister, Mabel Cope, of Springfield. a son, Russell, preceded her in death in May 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Walter, Roy, Albert, Fred, Chester, Kenneth and Dr. Milford Sanders; and one sister, Gladys Murtha.
Funeral services were held Friday at First Baptist Church, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
