George A. Garrett III, 58, of Shell Knob, passed away at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, on Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born on March 18, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, son of George Garrett II and Ruth (Foster) Garrett.
He received his education at Fremont-Mills High School, in Tabor, Iowa. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged from the Marines he settled in his hometown of Tabor, Iowa, where he worked as truck driver and mechanic. On March 8, 1996, he married Laura Thiessen in St. Joseph. In 1996, they moved to Lake of the Ozarks, where he worked on prize-winning stock cars. In July of 2005, George and his family moved to Shell Knob, where he continued his mechanics..
Survivors include: his wife, Laura Garrett, of Shell Knob; his mother, Ruth Rhode, of Tabor, Iowa; three sons, David Garrett and Josh Garrett, of Des Moines, Iowa, Travis Garrett, and his wife, Trisha, of Glenwood, Iowa; three daughters, Amanda Cannon, and her husband, Josh, of Wisconsin, Jami McSorley, and Josh Martin, of Shell Knob, and Tina Strouder, and her husband, Chad, of Glenwood, Iowa; one sister, Janice Johansen, and her husband, Ronnie, of Glenwood, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Garrett; his father, George Garrett II; his step-father, Jonathan Rhode; and one sister, Colista Garrett.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at White Funeral Home in Cassville, with Brother Reece Morrow officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.
