Ralph Waldo Kirk, 78, of Shell Knob, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.

He was born June 11, 1931, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Waldo Henry and Laura Della (Eastman) Kirk. On June 2, 1958, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Schmidt, who had two children. On Feb. 15, 1992, in Shell Knob, he married Joan Maree Smith, who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, Steve Kirk and his wife, Cathy, of Faxon, Okla.; one daughter, Sherry Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Tecumseh, Okla.; two step-sons, Mark Prier and his wife, Shannon, of Yukon, Okla., and Jeff Prier and his wife, Janis, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Terre Burrows and her husband, Chris, of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, Bob Kirk and his wife, Wilma, of Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight step-great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bonnie; two sisters and one brother.

He received his education in Wichita, Kan., where he graduated from high school. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Navy, receiving a good conduct medal. In 1988, he moved to Shell Knob to make his home and purchased Four Seasons Restaurant. After Bonnie's death, he opened the Outback Restaurant and Laundromat in Shell Knob, where he met Joan. He was a member of VFW Post 2203.

Funeral services with military honors by VFW Post 2203 will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Shell Knob. Rev. Chris Williams will conduct the services. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita, Kan., under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.

There will be a viewing from 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday in the church.
