On Feb. 27, Connie and Mark Holland, of Cassville, celebrated the grand opening of their new business, Roaring River Indoor Shooting Range and Cabin Rental. The archery range and newly renovated cabin are located south of Cassville on Highway 112.
"We live behind this property," said Connie. "We knew who owned the business, went to talk to him and worked out a deal so that we could buy it. The house needed a lot of work, but we knew it would make a great rental cabin. We wanted it to be used to benefit the community."
When the Hollands purchased their home seven years ago, they completely renovated the 150-year-old structure. The couple put that experience to work to renovate and update the home located on their newly acquired business property. They also recruited help from their children to complete the project.
The newly remodeled "Fish'n Cabin" features finished rock and wood floors, a fishing retreat decor, an updated kitchen, a laundry room, a dining area, a large bathroom and three bedrooms. The cabin, which can accommodate up to 12 individuals, offers two queen-size beds, a set of bunk beds and a standard-size bed.
"We wanted to offer something for families," said Connie. "We will be able to host large family groups. This year, we even having a group coming for a family reunion. They plan to put tents up in the fenced back yard for more family members."
In addition to the cabin rental, the Hollands' new business offers a 3-D archery range in the building that was previously known as The Roaring River Theater. The range features a variety of targets, including life-size deer, bears and turkeys.
"We have leagues starting right now," said Mark. "Leagues will run through three consecutive Saturdays. There is a $10 entry fee for each league with a 50 percent pay back. Later, we would like to add some leagues for kids, but we will have to wait and see what people want."
Roaring River Indoor Shooting Range also offers bow rentals and private lessons.
Open shooting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The daily shooting fee is $10. Archery enthusiasts can become members of the range, which reduces shooting fees by $3 per day.
"The National Wild Turkey Federation plans to hold an event at the shooting range later this year," said Mark. "Although the facility is not available for rent on a normal basis, we do hope to host some hunting and fishing organizations throughout the year."
Even though the Hollands have only owned the property where their new business is located for a few months, they have more plans for the location. Later, they will open an RV site on the property, and they plan to convert the building that formerly housed Coconuts Cafe into a pottery studio.
"I plan to teach pottery, craft and ceramics classes," said Connie. "I will also offer classes for kids on Saturdays."
Connie has been teaching pottery classes for many years. Currently, her classes are held at Clay By Connie, which is located next to the Oriental House in Cassville.
"We want people to feel comfortable when they come here, enjoy their stay and spending time here and choose to come back," said Connie.
The Hollands both have several years of business experience. Connie has owned Connie's Pet Parlor, a pet grooming business in Monett, for over 20 years, and Mark is part-owner of WinTech in Monett.
