Betty Rogers Flaxbeard passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. funeral services were held Tuesday, at Prosperity Baptist Church. Burial was at Rocky Comfort Cemetery.

She was born in Goss, La., on Jan. 6, 1929, to Ben and Lillie Richardson. She graduated from Van High School in 1945 at the age of 16. She attended Park College in Parkville, and Northwest State in Natchosa, La. She attended and graduated from business school in Tyler, Texas. She started to work for Halliburton Services in Wichita Falls, Texas, but transferred to Duncan, Okla., to work for Halliburton in 1948. She married Jack Rogers in April 1948. She and Jack raised three children Jimmy, Steve and Jackie.

They moved to Rocky Comfort in April 1977. She became actively involved in her church, Prosperity Baptist Church, in Rocky Comfort. She was one of the founding members for the McDonald County Rural Water Board and served for four years on the board. She worked for the U.S. Post Office for 19 years total with the last nine years as the postmaster in Wheaton.

Her husband, Jack, died on July 16, 1989, after being married for 41 years. She was a widower for nine years until she met Virgil Flaxbeard and they were married on Sept. 5, 1998.

survivors include: her husband, Virgil; her children, Jim and Janelle Rogers, and Steve and Tracy Rogers, of Rocky Comfort; Jackie and Steve Darter, of Duncan, Okla.; and Virgil's children, Brenda Love, of Rocky Comfort, Linda Granger, of Purdy, Karen Brown, of Fairview, and Terril Murphy, of Marshfield; one sister, Pauline Gregory, of Morganton, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
