Few surprises emerge on first day of filing
Filing for the August primary election opened Tuesday, and seven of the nine candidates who filed for office in Barry County are incumbents.
The only office to attract new names to the ballot is the position of Division II Associate Circuit Judge. Carr Woods is not seeking re-election to the judgeship, and two Cassville attorneys have filed to succeed him. Cordelia Herrin and Robert "Bob" Foulke have filed for the office on the Republican ticket.
Incumbents who have filed for re-election include: Presiding Commissioner Cherry Warren, Prosecuting Attorney Johnnie Cox, County Clerk Gary Youngblood, Collector Janice Varner, Treasurer Lois Lowe, Circuit Clerk/Recorder of Deeds Craig Williams and Division I Associate Circuit Judge Victor Head.
All the candidates who filed on Tuesday are Republicans. As of 5 p.m. on Feb. 23, no candidates had filed on the Democrat ticket.
The last day to file for county office is Tuesday, March 30. The primary election will be held on Aug. 3.
