Robert W. "Bob" Townsend, 92, of Cassville, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in Red Rose Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cassville.
He was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Spencerville, Ohio, the son of Frank and Bessie (Whitcomb) Townsend. On Feb. 19, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., he was united in marriage to Mary Thomas, who survives.
Additional survivors include: two daughters, Barbara "Bobbie" Tucker and her husband, Byron, of Cassville, and Anna "Betsy" O'Neal and her husband, Joe, of Kansas City; one sister, Mabel Beerman, of Lansdale, Penn.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He received his education in Spencerville, Ohio, where he graduated from high school. He attended Arkansas State Teachers College and received his master's degree at the University of Arkansas and a specialist degree at Missouri University. During World War II, he served our country in the United States Army. He taught at various schools in Missouri. later, he held positions as junior high principal, superintendent and administrator. He moved from Ashland to Cassville 32 years ago to make his home. He was a member of Cassville United Methodist Church, where he and Mary were custodians several years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Cassville United Methodist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Lee Porch, Rev. Don Beeson and Pastor Doyle Russell will conduct the services. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Friday in the church.
