Devilla R. Gunter, 71, of Wheaton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in her home.

She was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Comanche, Texas, the daughter of William "Bill" and Elsie Ruth (Poole) Pointer. On Dec. 14, 1960, in Belen, N.M., she was united in marriage to Irvin Gunter, who survives.

Additional survivors include: four sons, John Gunter and his wife, Marlene, of Wheaton, Darrell Gunter and his wife, Dorothy, of Wheaton, William Gunter, of Wheaton, and Donald Gunter and his wife, Tammy, of Purdy; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Helen Patterson, Evelyn Pointer, Wilma Bragg and Dorothy Shaw; and three brothers, Ernest "Bud" Pointer, Bill Pointer, Jr. and Tommy Pointer.

She received her education in Texas and New Mexico. In 1971, she moved from Gallup, N.M., to Missouri to make her home. She was employed several years as a motor assembler for Fasco, from which she retired. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Graveside services were held Thursday at Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Harold Reaves and Steve Spillman conducted the services.
