Gladys E. Murray 91, of Shirley, Ark. passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. She was born June 14, 1918, at Brumley, Mo., to the late Theodore and Alta Mae Sutliff McClain.
She married Ray Murray Dec. 18, 1937. Her husband, Ray, preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1992. Also preceding her are her parents, a brother, Lowell McClain, a daughter, Alta Ray Murray Watts, and a son, Dale Edward Murray.
Survivors include: her sister, Goldia McClain Murray; four sons and their wives, Sherman Murray and Hazel, of Greenbrier, Ark., Gary Murray and Peggy, of Washburn, Lowell Murray and Peggy, of Centerton, Ark., and Johnny Murray and Rosemary. of Seligman; one daughter, Treby Murray Davis and Randy, of Anderson; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She spent most of her life in Shirley, Ark. In 1962, she moved to Seligman. There, she and her husband purchased a hotel. She started her own business putting a cafe in the hotel. Later, she went to work at the Farmers Exchange as a store clerk. She retired and moved back to Shirley, Ark.
She was a member of the Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Shirley, Ark. She was also a member of Zion Word Church of Anderson.
Services were held 2p.m. Tuesday. Visitation started at 1 p.m. prior to service at Maranatha Assembly of God Church Shirley, Ark., with Dr. Randy Davis (son-in-law) pastor of Zion Word Church of Anderson, officiating. Burial followed at Settlement Cemetery, Shirley, Ark.
Funeral Arrangements were under the care and direction of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Clinton, Ark.
