On Dec. 17, the Cassville R-IV School Board hired Jill LeCompte, Cassville Intermediate School principal, to serve as the district's director of instructional services. LeCompte will assume the new administrative position during the 2010-11 school year.
"This position deals with working with the teachers and students to improve performance and learning," said LeCompte. "I'm really into that, and I am pretty good with people so I think acting as a liaison between the students and teachers will be right up my alley."
LeCompte, a 1984 Cassville High School alumna, has a bachelor of science in education degree and a master's degree from the University of Arkansas. She has also earned a specialist in educational administration degree from Missouri State University.
After teaching first grade at Purdy Elementary School for four years, LeCompte returned to her alma mater as a fifth grade teacher in 1992. Around five years later, she accepted a third grade teaching position, which she held for five years.
In 2000, LeCompte decided to take on more responsibility and accepted the junior high assistant principal position. During this time, she also served as the middle school sports director and the at-risk coordinator.
LeCompte later moved into the middle school principal's position and then accepted the principal position at Cassville Intermediate School.
"In this new position (as director of instructional services), I will be in charge of federal programs, curriculum and student testing," said LeCompte. "After being at Cassville for over 30 years and serving in so many positions I see this as a new challenge that I am ready for."
As she takes on the new position, LeCompte hopes to help the district continue to improve its assessment scores and student performance.
"My goal is to keep improving the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) scores and help the kids and teachers learn and teach better," said LeCompte. "I would also like to help the district move out of School Improvement status. We are already recognized as a distinguished school, but I would like to see us improve even more."
LeCompte lives in Washburn with her husband, Michael, and their children Victoria, who is a junior at CHS, Zane, who is a sophomore at CHS, and Jillian, who attends preschool.
The Cassville School Board is accepting in-house resumes for the Cassville Intermediate School principal position. The district hopes to conduct interviews for the position over the next month and announce LeCompte's replacement in February or March of 2010.
Richard Asbill currently serves as the Cassville School District's instructional services director. Asbill will begin serving as the district's superintendent during the 2010-11 school year.
