Joseph "Joe" Owen England, age 94, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in St. John's Hospital, Cassville.
He was born April 26, 1915, in Mineral Springs, Missouri, the son of George Henry and Minerva (Brock) England. On Nov. 25, 1937, he was united in marriage to Beulah Alvina Henson, who preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1996. Also preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
Survivors include: two sons, Ted England and his wife, Betty, of Neosho, and Jackie England, of Shell Knob; three daughters, Carol House and her husband, Kenny, of Cassville, Beverly Brown and her husband, Charles, of Lamonte, Ill. and Linda Ledgerwood and her husband, Carl, of Collierville, Tenn.; two brothers, Jack England, of Mt. Vernon, and Charles England and his wife, Nancy, of Cassville; one sister, Lilly Phillips, of Tehachapi, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Whistling Joe, as many people knew him, received his education at Hailey and Gaddis schools and Cassville High School. He farmed his entire life, raising cattle and crops. He was also a self taught and skilled carpenter, masonry and electrician. He was a member of Twin Valley Baptist Church and had been attending Cassville First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Don Beeson and Pastor Lonnie Stockton conducted the services. Burial was at Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville.
