Local runners complete race in Memphis for St. Jude's The Cassville Runners Club was well represented at the St. Jude's Memphis Marathon held on Saturday, Dec. 5 in Memphis, Tenn., with nine local runners participating. Mandi Stansberry, Tiffany Haynes, Jennifer Evans and Max, Emily, Joshua and Lyra-Ann Akers ran the 13.1-mile half marathon, and Daron Evans and Jeff Stockton completed the 26.2-mile full marathon. Pictured above, from left, are: Stockton, Daron and Jennifer Evans, Lyra-Ann, Emily, Max and Joshua Akers, Haynes and Stansberry. Starting in January of 2009, each runner began building a base of running fitness, slowly adding miles until beginning the four-month training plan that brought them to their goal. For the majority of the group, the St. Jude's event represented their first race. The group also raised nearly $1,000 to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The Cassville Runners Club is planning another marathon travel event for 2010 and will provide training plans, Saturday group runs, travel arrangements and guidance through the whole process of preparing for the race. The Cassville Runners Club will hold an informational meeting at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the Family Life Center in Cassville. At this meeting, the dates and location of the 2010 run will be discussed. For more information, e-mail Daron or Jennifer Evans at cassvilledemocrat@centurytel.net or call them at 671-1513 or 671-1514.
