Mary Elizabeth Stewart, 83, of Shell Knob, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, with her son, Bob and daughter, Connie by her side.

She was born March 13, 1926, in Howell County, the daughter of Lewis Elmer and Elsie Mae (Hale) Alsup. On May 1, 1948, in Kansas City, she was united in marriage to Ermal Leroy "Stu" Stewart, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1990. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Louis "Bob" Stewart and his wife, Peggy, of Shell Knob; one daughter, Connie Sue Hubbard and her husband, Bill, of Kansas City; one brother, Uel Alsup and his wife, Betty, of Nampa, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

She grew up near Willow Springs, where she received her education and graduated from high school. She resided much of her life in Kansas City. The family moved to Shell Knob in 1967, where they owned and operated Hardman Hollow Resort and then Hillcrest Resort. She was a member of Central Community United Methodist Church, Shell Knob.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Rev. Teressa Clyde will conduct the services. Burial will be at Painter Cemetery, Shell Knob.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
