LaVerne Thomas Means, 85, of Eagle Rock, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, in Brighton Ridge, Eureka Springs, Ark.
He was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Reeds, the son of Denver L. and Cora (Spilker) Means, who preceded him in death.
He received his education in a one room school house near Carthage and graduated from high school in Carthage. He was employed as a salesman for ADM Feeds in Salina, Kan., from which he retired. He moved to Eagle Rock in 1987 to make his home. After moving to Eagle Rock, he worked for awhile Tyson's in Berryville, Ark., and then in Green Forest, Ark. For a short time he worked with the Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Ark. He was a member of First Christian Church, Eureka Springs, Ark.
Bowling was his favorite pastime. He bowled in several leagues many years and even went to nationals. He bowled a 299 game, missing a perfect game by one pin in the last frame.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in First Christian Church, Eureka Springs, Ark., under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Dr. Cecil Todd and Pastor Philip Wilson will conduct the services. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mt. Vernon.
