Richard Vernon "Dick" Carlson, 67, of Shell Knob, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield.
He was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Alva and Betsy (Lundstrum) Carlson. On July 25, 1975, in Des Moines, he was united in marriage to Sandra Roy, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. Also preceding him in death was one brother.
Survivors include: two sons, Craig Carlson and his wife, Dorothy, of Madrid, Iowa, and Robert Pieart, of Ankeny, Iowa; one daughter, Cathy Jo Maxwell, of Blue Eye; two brothers, Alva Carlson, II and his wife, Judy of Afton, Iowa, and John Carlson and his wife, Carol, of Ankeny, Iowa; three sisters, Joann Waters and her husband, Daryll of Waukee, Iowa, Betty Hayes, of Shell Knob, and Mary Trapp of Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren.
He received his education in Ankeny, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. Most of his life was spent in Iowa, where he worked as a forklift mechanic for John Deere. He served our country in the United States Army. In 2001, he moved to Shell Knob to make his home.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, in United Church of Christ, Ankeny, Iowa. Cremation arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
