Dewey Lee Akin, 83, of Verona, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Barry County, the son of William Fred and Ina Cordelia Hancock Akin. He was a cabinet maker. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Aurora. In 1982, he created Rocky Top Blueberry Farm in Verona, which is still family owned and operated.
He married Ida Jessilyn Young on Jan. 2, 1949, in Monett, and she survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Matt Akin, of Verona; one daughter, Sandy Keith, of Ozark; two sisters, Freddie Hemphill, of Purdy, and June Severance, of Long Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean Akin, Herman Akin, Vester Akin and Howard Akin; and one sister, Pauline Hartsell.
Services were held Oct. 7, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett with Deny Lemaster officiating. Burial was at Purdy Cemetery, Purdy.
Arrangements were under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
