Violet was born April 26, 1935, in Blackwell, Okla., the daughter of Joe and Edna (Elmquist) Shoemaker. She moved to Barry County as a young child. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Harry Stockton on March 14, 1954, and celebrated 55 years together. He survives.
To this union three children were born: sons, Steve and his wife, Kathy, of Warsaw, Marty and his wife, Dana, of Independence, and daughter Kelly and her husband, Tim, of Grain Valley. She is also survived by seven grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Steven, Kristi, Robby, Chad, McKayla, Maddie and Hannah; sisters, Emma Jo Privett, of Butterfield, and Erma Ruth Rose, of Carthage; and a host of nieces and nephews.
